Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
All of these attacks make me wonder how many button inputs there are.
Is it still in the standard format: movement keys, 1 attack key,.defense and jump?

Movement keys, attack key, defend key, jump key and SPECIAL key..
So 8 buttons now in total... and combinations are endless unlike lf2's D+movement keys + .... system.
Like >^A, >A, vS etc... (>^v = movement)

Ohh, that's pretty cool. I see why it's gonna be even more awesome than before. The combat sounds like it's gonna be up there with some of the best fighting games.
Thanks Rhino

Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
All those animations looks so great and... slow.
I mean they're really fantastic when you look at them, but I'm woring a little bit, that those super extra cool stuffs like this arm shaking above, or Sabo slowly doing step back before Dragon Claw will drastically slow gameplay down.
Also Fire gun still looks weird, because of how Sabo's finger looks like, it's just way too big.
Besides this, really great job team, it looks like we will be getting easily best LF2 mod currently.
Keep it up guys, especially A-man and rest of the coding team, you're doing the most boring, but yet so damn important job, while Z is probably getting a lot of fun

Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
You're missing a few points here:
1. The mod is no longer LF2, A-MAN has developed his own engine from scratch, namely the "A-Engine"
LF2 while running on 30 frames per second, A-Engine is twice as fast with 60 frames per second.
2. You will see the smoothness in all those minor movements when you test it yourself, and they don't kill gameplay at ALL, everything is balanced finely. And honestly without those mini movements, game would look pretty stiff itself.
3. Spriting sure sounds fun, but its time consuming and we all often end up loosing motivation to do it.
Thanks for support guys
Edit: happy birthday Kenachi

Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
Just wanted to note that the moves in the game is 3/2 faster than what they look in the GIFs. The game play is fast paced just enough so don't worry about that.
LF2 dcing was amazingly boring, I agree, but that's not the case here.
Happy birzdayz.
Not true AT ALL . At least for me. If programming was as boring as you said, I wouldn't have dedicated a huge portion of my time for it.Kenachi wrote:

It looks great both of you (Z and A-MAN).
A-MAN one question on the movelist, Won't it be bad for the accuracy if you hold up/down key?

Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
@barfix: Thanks! It might sound like it decreases accuracy, but it really doesn't. Luffy's walking speed in the z-axis is about 2 pixels per a frame. A regular attack's z-width is about 18 pixels (9 up and 9 down). Also, even tapping Up/Down and Attack at the same time works; so don't worry XD.
@Doffy: Thank you! We're currently focusing on polishing and finishing Luffy 100%, and since then, a lot of changes in the combinations of the moveset has been done. Law's moveset is still small compared to Luffy's, but everything will be pointed out later when we start polishing him.

Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
Do you think this is a good idea...
Maybe you could implement a item store in game where you can buy specific items which may enhance a characteristic of the character. i would think that this would be most enjoyable in stage mode or tournaments.
For example Luffy had an armband which he gave to buggy so he can find captain johns treasure; you could use this so that when Luffy is with that item, either Buggy from your team would have a slight attack increase, or the enemy Buggy could have a slight increase as he may want to get the armband.(This example would only work when Buggy will be sprited by infamous Z-Studios ^^)

Oh! I remembered we previously planned a free roaming mode for going between the stages in the story mode. Maybe we can have some secret islands on the way for which you can unlock extra missions. Since we're pretty much planning to follow the TS Canon story line, characters will get power ups accordingly. Equip-able items for stats will make the game more of RPG, and the A-Engine wasn't optimized for and doesn't have much to do with this (it a beat em up engine after all).viv11 wrote:Do you think this is a good idea...

Lol, you trolling? Fortunately for you, we're planning to have 1 or 2 secret characters from DBZ. That can be the way to unlock them XP.Beta96 wrote:Yea, you should make dragon ball, collect all of them and grant choose-able wish to beat up Saiyan warrior.
Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
Yes and giving some suggestion. You know DBZ char is kinda over-powered. It would be cool if you collect some dragon ball before beating them. If you didn't collect you will have hard time to unlock them~ It's kinda you're in DBZ world, with DBZ stages and music. It doesn't matter if you want to make them balance though.
If you plan to do other char, I would like to propose one of Bleach char, Sousuke Aizen.

For me, i don't want any other chars than One Piece char because it's one piece game anyway. Doing all of the chars from OP world is more than enough for me. But if A-Man wants to do other chars than OP, i would suggest characters from Fairy tail such as Mirajane or even Erza

dang z you sprite pretty darn fast and its really good. Secret chars!?, I think you guys should do dlc instead cause you guys have like 30 or more chars to sprite and code and I really would like to play with chars like brook, kizaru, and rayleigh and secret chars would make the wait longer.....well hoping secret chars aren't just from dbz(it isn't the only anime/manga that inspired one piece) and you guys should use j stars victory vs as a reference for goku since it gives a better goku feel than most dbz games

updating gear 2 smoke effects.
The smoke isn't looping all the way, but in engine it'll be a continuous loop so Luffy will always be covered in smoke rather than the stop and start I have now.

I think the shading are cool, it looks legit.
Anyway, since you have two char, it will be likely the game will have Luffy vs Luffy or Law vs Law. Is there a different palletes for each char like different color clothes and pants? Because it will be confusing if the same char fight each other ._.

Re: One Piece A-Edition Alpha Progress
For the stance it has to be similar to the original since you'll be switching in and out and the transition needs to be fast. Otherwise they'll be to much jerkyness between transformations and you'll be vulnerable during the change.
