Anime Expo 2013: My first anime convention

So last week i went to an anime convention, it was a 4 day event at a huge convention center. This is the biggest convention in North America and this year had record attendance of around 61,000 people, over 10,000 more people than last year.
It was pretty awesome and there were so many things to do at the expo. I apologize in advance for the shoddy pics, im not really good with taking pics.

crowds:

1-SHOPS: there were so many stores selling so much merchandise ex. dvds, manga,costumes,prop weapons,keychains,figures,trading cards, hentai etc.
2-Guests of Honor
-Megumi Han: HunterXHunter ,Gons voice actor.
-George Wada: producer for Attack on Titan
-English voice actors for Sanji,Ed,Al,and Ichigo.
-bunch of other people that i didnt really know,these above are the only ones i really cared about
-someone from aniplex
- pro musicians who make Miku songs using the software ex. Utatap

3-Concerts: they had some goin on, but i didn't have the money for them

4-Cosplayers: they are everywhere, literally crawling all over the place.

5- Anime screenings, basically watching anime but in the movies.

aaaand i forgot/didnt care about the rest.

To tell you the truth, i didn't know what to expect of an anime convention, so when i got there I was shocked with seeing how long the lines were to get in. Luckily for me and my friends it took less than an hour to get in, some other people weren't lucky and had to wait up to 4 hours. The convention was 4 days and there was day 0 where you pick up your badge (without this badge you cant get into the event). What surprised me was how well they tried to organize the event, there were staff all over the place, there was an app for android and ios with a map of the place and a schedule of all events going on.I will kinda try to summarize the main stuff i did there in those days. I spent the first day just trying to get to events but getting lost. The second day was really crowded and if you wanted to get to an event you were interested in, you had to go wait in line super early. I didn't really do much on the first day so i tried to do random stuff on day 2. Watched 3 eps of dubbed one piece,went to the first miku event,went with my friends to this random person's panel and roamed through the huge shopping area. This doesn't seem like much but the place was so spacious that it took sometime. Day 3 was the really fun day, watched 3 eps of Baccano, a bit of Anime and Manga history, my friend was able to get megumi han (gon's voice actor) to sign a copy of a HXH manga volume(although i wasn't with him ), and there was an aniplex panel talking about all the dubbed anime they will be selling. Day 4 I went and actually bought some stuff from the stores, went to the big miku event, and then there was the closing ceremony.......wuut already!! (if it doesn't seem like much happened, i really shortened the sequence of events for the sake of not making this any longer)

side story:

All in all, this was an awesomely memorable event. The place was crowded as fudge but it was still fun because being in a place with concentrated otakus means that you can jump into a random conversation with anyone and you can let your otakuness run free. You also get to meet some of the people behind making anime,voice acting in it,publicizing it,dubbing it and basically anyone with anything to do with it. You also just get to chill out. Some of the stuff i enjoyed there were the hatsune miku panel (they announced the english miku release and we were able to hear some awesome miku songs), the vendors, and running around the place lost XD. So if an anime convention happens to be coming around your place, definitely go, you will never regret it. lol yea, she was also nice, my friend asked her how much she paid for the sword and it turned out that she kinda got ripped off with that swords price, paid a bit more than what they were selling inside.

And I really liked the Chopper's cosplay. He did it real good . A cosplay of Franky TS could've been very cool! Too bad I didn't see any.

@Rhino poor guy, he ended up being arrested for possession of too much swag ~never live the thug life~ and chopper is a monster, luffy is human. gotta say that its my 2nd fave pic after ed
@Gerafi i dont really remember exact prices since i wasnt the one buying, but i think she paid around 15$ more than what my friend paid. (yea i know, not a helpful answer, srry )

Sadly no marcos, there were luffys (my friend went as strong world luffy) , sanjis, namis (i approve),robins(stamp of excellency) ,choppers,zoros, hancock (i approve even more) ace,gender bent ace (mmmmmm), ussop, franky, tashigi, one of hancocks's subordinates (mmmm+approval), law, and there was smoker. these are the only ones i saw, there could've have been a marco but with the sheer amount of people, it would've been hard to find him.

im lucky to be where i am now, people travel to come to the convention i went to and i only gotta take public transportation. I dont really know how widespread anime conventions are, but i know that US,UK, Phillipines,and France have huge annual ones. never really looked into them

wow, kuala lumpur, is this a huge event or is it one of the smaller type of conventions?

last year was for all asia =_= it was big conventions, this year maybe the small one

cuz like i said earlier, Anime Expo of LA is the biggest in North America. the others that i know of that happen in the US never how as many people as AX go to them. its kinda crazy how many people started coming over the years. AX started in a small hotel in 1992 and now 61,000 people in a convention hall.
